Objectives

-Advanced applications of the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in the field of ecology.

-Remote sensing tools used in ecology, and their practical application.

Contents

Geographic data management: Best procedures to store, treat and query the information.

-Interpolations How to interpolate the field data correctly to obtain a good coverage of the landscape variability.

-Spatial analysis. Treatment of advanced geographic analysis techniques, within the landscape (cost distances, decision support, etc).

-Ecological modelling: The role of GIS in data preparation, ecological modelling, and data management.

-Geo-Statistics: Statistical methods to describe the geographical relationships between the variables studied.

-Remote Sensing: Possibilities of using remote sensing data in ecology. Crop management, species identification, land use assessment, etc.

Minimum Requirements for attendance:

Medium-Basic level of GIS. Candidates might be fully capable to perform basic GIS analysis, and data treatment.

Software used:

GvSIG, IDRISI, QGIS
