Objectives

-Study of applications of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in the field of ecology.

-Description of the main GIS tools used in ecology, and their practical applications.

Contents

-GIS Concepts: Description of the main functionalities of a GIS system.

-Data acquisition: Analyze available data sources for studies in ecology.

-Descriptive techniques: Use of environmental variables to describe the environment.

-Spatial analysis: Analyze a range geographic analysis technique, such as geographic distances, interpolations, etc.

-Geo-Statistics: Basic statistic methods that describes the geographic relationships between the studied variables.

-Remote sensing: Quick review of the possibilities of using remote sensing data in ecology.

Software used: GvSIG, IDRISI, QGIS
