João Brigola

João Brigola was born in Lisbon. He graduated in History (1977), holds a Master of Cultural History and Politics degree (1990), a PhD in History/Museum Studies (2001), and is a Professor with Aggregation in Theory and History of Museology (2007). Apart from being a lecturer at the School of Social Sciences (Department of History, University of Évora), he is a principal researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre of History, Cultures and Societies (CIDEHUS/UE) and project coordinator for the Évora Museum Network, an initiative that brings together eight museological units located in the city. He is also member of a working group named Analysis of the Cultural Activities of the Alentejo, set up by the Alentejo Regional Directorate of Culture. Formerly, he was a Visiting Associate Professor at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of NOVA University in Lisbon (2008–2013) and Director-General of the Institute for Museums and Conservation (IMC), under the Ministry of Culture (2009–2012).
